Nigeria: Severance Pay - Union Writes Power Minister

Lagos — The Senior Staff Association Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) has written the Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo over wrong computation of the severance pay of workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The Federal Government last week said N384billion would be paid to the workers beginning from this month.

But the union, in a protest letter implored the Minister to direct the Bureau for Public Enterprises and its consultants, Alexander Forbes to compute the package. It said such computation should employ necessary variables to arrive at the total terminal benefits meant for workers in line with agreement the Unions in the Power Sector signed with the government on December 11, 2012.
