Kano State Police Command Tuesday vowed to find out the killers of the Squadron leader of the Nigeria police force Mobile Squadron Leader (MOPOL 9), Mr. Dahiru Ibrahim Majia, a Superintendent of Police (SP), who was killed by unknown gunmen on Monday night in Kano.
The command also hinted that it had made 'some arrests' in connection with, adding that Majiya was killed on Monday night at his residence in Sabuwar Gandu Quarters of Kano metropolis.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Musa Daura, told journalists yesterday that: "After the incident, policemen were immediately deployed for cordon and search in the area as a result of which some suspects were arrested and are now undergoing investigation and screening."
He said the slain police officer left the command after the normal meeting only to be killed by unknown gunmen, while returning home from office at Sabuwar Gandu quarters in Kano.
The police commissioner stated that the assailants opened fire sporadically on the officer, killing him instantly, saying "Dahiru is a young man who is very hardworking and dedicated officer."
Daura said: "The command will thoroughly investigate the matter with a view to fishing out the perpetrators of this dastardly act."
He also declined to state the number of suspects arrested, however assured that innocent ones among them would be released, while urged members of the public to continue to cooperate with the command in its battle against terrorism and criminal activities in the state by providing relevant and timely information.
"Any information pass to us will be treated with utmost confidentiality and we cannot sit down and fold our arms while innocent people are being killed," he said.
The commissioner also described the killing of the police officer as 'a very sad event' to the command and the entire force, vowed to investigate the matter to its logical, saying: "We are still moving ahead to where we stopped so that people will know that we are on ground.
"I guarantee people that any information will be treated as confidentiality without disclosing the identity of the source and our doors are open and we don't lock our door, we need assistance and cooperation from the general public".
