Nigeria: Gunmen Kill Seven in Yobe

Damaturu — Unknown gunmen yesterday killed seven people in Nganzarma town located 35km to Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.

Daily Trust gathered that the gunmen stormed the town at around 9:30pm and executed group of seven vigilante officers in office located at Sabon gari area of Nganzarma.

Credible sources in Ngelzarma town of Yobe State said the seven slain vigilante members were killed by Boko Haram fighters who thronged the town on revenge mission.

An opinion leader told our correspondent that some locals sighted a strange man in the morning at a river in the outskirt of the town.

"When the locals got closer, they saw the man taking bath and realized that he had a gun and the development prompted them to alert the vigilante leader who immediately mobilized his men to the scene and caught the suspect. Without any delay, they also handed him over to the police," the source said.

"Probably, it was the action of the vigilante group that led to the unfortunate incident," another source said, adding that people in Ngelzarma are now living in fear.

JTF spokesman, Lieutenant Eli Lazarus confirmed the incident saying that "seven of them were killed but JTF is on top of the situation."
