Tunisia Arrests Belaid Murder Suspects

Tunisian police on Monday (February 26th) arrested two Le Kram men in connection with the murder of opposition leader Chokri Belaid, Tunisie Numerique reported.

The alleged assassin - a 31-year-old furniture maker - was arrested in Carthage. The second suspect is accused of helping the gunman flee by motorbike.

A woman who witnessed the February 6th killing reportedly tipped off authorities. She has been placed under police protection.

The assassination of Belaid spurred a political crisis in the country, culminating in the resignation of Hamadi Jebali and the appointment of Ali Larayedh as prime minister.
