Sierra Leone: Le500 Million Bail for Fraudster

Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Court No. 2 Thursday granted bail of Le500 million each to KoluOkori and Alhaji Issa Fofanah with two sureties each having Le50 million in their bank accounts. They were charged for allegedly defrauding Evangelist Nnamdi Joseph Omegar of the sum of $176,000.

They were indicted on three counts of conspiracy to defraud, fraudulent conversion and larceny contrary to Section 20 (11) (iv)(b) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of offence available in court, both accused persons on a date between June 1 and November 30, 2012 at Skye Bank on Siaka Steven Street conspired with other persons unknown to defraud the complainant of the sum of US$86,400 meant to acquire a diamond license, gold, Kimberly Certificate and payment for 70 acres of land at Mile 13 for the complainant.

The second accused also on the same date converted to his own use certain properties to the tune of US$16,200 entrusted to him by the complainant for the acquiring of 70 acre of land for the mining of gold and diamond knowing it to be false. The matter was adjourned to February 26.
