The Gambia leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh, has endorsed the candidature of Yankuba Colley for the Mayoral seat in the Kanifing Municipality under the banner of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), in the forthcoming Local Government Election, slated for April 4th 2013.
Yankuba Colley disclosed this to the Daily Observer during an interview Tuesday at the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC).
"The president has endorsed my candidacy as the flag-bearer for the APRC and I am very happy. I am very delighted because when your party says that you would be its flag-bearer, you don't have anything to say, but to thank Allah and the president who has finally endorsed my candidacy," he enthused.
He used the opportunity to thank the Gambian leader for having confidence in him once more to allow him contest for the KMC Mayoral seat. He also thanked APRC supporters for their continuous loyalty to the party, and the support given to him.
Recast
It would be recalled that the Daily Observer earlier this month had an interview with Yankuba Colley at the APRC Bureau, where he intimated that he would run for the Kanifing top job under the banner of the ruling party, APRC. In the interview, he said: "I have the intention of vying again but it has a process through the party line. So, yes, the intention is there and already people have gone out to say that they want Yankuba Colley as their mayor.
"My party is the most popular within the Municipality and whoever contests under that banner will be the next mayor. The opposition are not a threat to our party."
