An African Development Bank team composed of experts from the Energy, Environment and Climate Change Department (ONEC) and the Sierra Leone Field Office (SLFO) completed its second green growth mission to Sierra Leone from February 4 to 8, 2013. The objective of the mission was to work further with Government counterparts on mainstreaming green growth into Sierra Leone's Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) - (2013-2017) called "Agenda for Prosperity", currently under preparation.

During the mission, the Chair of the PRSP Core Team acknowledged the support provided by the Bank over the past several months, endorsed the AfDB's report entitled "Towards Green Growth: Stocktaking and the Way Forward", and invited the AfDB to provide further technical assistance over the coming weeks to ensure the successful completion of the mainstreaming exercise. The team had the opportunity to also share the work done so far on green growth in the country with key development partners including the World Bank, UNDP, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and European Union, who are very supportive and looking forward to contributing to the operationalization of the green growth approach.

It is envisioned that Sierra Leone's engagement on such sustainable development approach will ensure high quality growth that benefits Sierra Leoneans; enhance Sierra Leone's international reputation; and make the country's economy more resilient and competitive, thereby creating jobs while also attracting additional development financing, including from the private sector.

Going forward, the Bank's Green Growth team, in collaboration with other development partners, will contribute to the preparation of the action plan and results framework of the PRSP, focusing on green growth approaches which are adapted to the country. The Bank will, thereafter, prepare a "green CSP" with investments that support the green growth approach selected by the Government of Sierra Leone.
