Bardo — Constitution General Rapporteur and National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Co-ordination and Drafting Commission Deputy-Chairman Habib Khedhr stated that to finish off drafting of the new Constitution by the end of next April, as specified, Monday in Geneva, by NCA Speaker Mustapha Ben Jaafar, is "a real challenge."
In a statement, Wednesday, to TAP news agency, he pointed out that it "is difficult to set a definitive date for the end of Constitution drafting, given that the various commissions have not finished their works yet, after discussions in plenary sessions on the Constitution chapters and that several disagreements related to the political regime have not yet been settled.
He specified in this regard, that the points of disagreement shrank to ten compared with the first and second drafts of the Constitution.
Besides, Mr. Khedhr said that trend today is towards a mixed regime, considering that the President of the Republic's role is that of decisive arbitration in some situations, who sees to the protection and respect of the Constitution, as stipulated in the preliminary draft, with the possibility of reinforcing and rationalising these prerogatives.
