Nigeria: PDP Advises Agencies to Fully Implement 2013 Budget

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised government agencies to ensure full implementation of the 2013 budget for the benefit of all Nigerians.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Olisa Metuh, gave the advice in a statement he issued in Abuja on Wednesday.

He commended President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the National Assembly for signing the budget into law.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the delayed in the signing of the budget by the president had been an issue in the media of late.

The PDP spokesman thanked Nigerians for their calmness and patience with the presidency in spite of inciting statements from opposition parties.

He said: "it is an indication that Nigerians have confidence in the PDP-led administration".

Metuh explained that the delay in the signing of the budget was as a result of insistence by the president and the PDP-led National Assembly to be thorough.

He said it was also to ensure that the provisions of the budget were in the best interest of the country.

Metuh said that the party was highly impressed by the fatherly role played by the president in being meticulous with the budget.

He commended the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives for their roles in ensuring understanding between the legislative and executive arms on the budget.

He also commended the two arms for ensuring that they played their constitutional roles of checks and balances.

This, Metuh said, was critical to guarantee that the provisions of the budget were in the best interest of Nigerians.

He applauded the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Sen. Joy Emodi, for her efforts in ensuring that all differences on the budget were resolved.

Metuh stressed that the successful signing of the budget was a confirmation that the presidency and the National Assembly were on the same page in ensuring the welfare of Nigerians.

He, however, urged the executive to ensure proper implementation of the budget and advised the National Assembly to strengthen its oversight capacity to guarantee effective utilisation of resources.
