NAIROBI teams will start preparations for the 15th edition of East and Central Africa Inter Cities Championships next month ahead of the event slated for April in Kampala, Uganda.
Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) chairman, Ronnie Owino disclosed yesterday said Nairobi will be represented by the both the women's team, who are the defending champions and their men's side.
He said the event, which was earlier slated for Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania in March has now been moved to Kampala due to logistical constraints and will now be played from April 29- May 4 at the YMCA Wandegeya courts. The decision to give it back to Kampala, who staged the show last year was reached at during the FIBA Africa Zone Five Club Championships in Tanzania last month.
Owino disclosed that the training will start March 16 under coaches Sylvia Kamau Ocholla and Peter Kiganya. They will be assisted by Caroline Ouma and Ben Oluoch. He asked the tacticians to name 18 players for a start. Sudan have already confirmed they will bring three cities for six-day tournament, which has also attracted teams from Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and host Uganda.
