Kenya: Man Assaults Wife Over Sex

A Nakuru man who assaulted his wife after she refused to give him his conjugal rights for three days will serve a year in jail or pay a fine of Sh 5,000.

Peter Muiruri is accused of commiting the offence on October 9, 2009 at Bahati, Nakuru. Testifying in court, his wife, Beth Ngendo said she sustained a deep cut on her head after Muiruri hit her with a piece of wood.

In his ruling, senior resident magistrate Gerald Mutiso said the provisions of the law on rape and attempted rape "do not exempt married couples."
