Tanzania: PM Set to Launch Beehive Hanging Day

Singida — THE Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda is expected to arrive in Singida Region tomorrow morning (Monday) for a day long official visit.

According to the Singida Regional Commissioner (RC), Dr Parseko Kone, the Premier would spend a day in Manyoni District where he is scheduled to officiate inauguration of the national day for Bee-hive Hanging at Aghondi village in the district.

Dr Kone said Mr Pinda would arrive at Manyoni town at 10 a.m. and he leaves for Dodoma in the evening after inauguration of the planned activities. "The inauguration ceremony will be preceded by the display of various products emanating from honey, which includes candles and soap" the RC said, calling for people to turn up in big numbers as this would be the best opportunity for them to learn about honey benefits".

Dr Kone said the main objective of establishing the National Day for the hanging of bee-hives in the country was to increase awareness and sensitize the people on the benefits in the honey industry. He said that honey industry could eradicate poverty among the people and at the same time preserve environment.

Latest statistics for the region indicate that the productivity for honey increased from 66.57 tones in 2007 to 126.6 tones in 2012 while wax increased from 10.6 tones to 34.2 tones during the same period.
