The Ministry of Agriculture said on Saturday that winds have changed the course of locusts from Ain Sukhna to the Fifth Compound in Cairo.
In a press release, the ministry said locusts were dispersed when residents burned car tires to scare the locusts.
Anti-locust squads have rushed to the attacked areas to combat the crop-eating pests, said the ministry.
