Two Iranians charged in a Nairobi court for terror activities in Mombasa June last year.

TWO Iranians arrested over terrorism links had planned to bomb Times Tower, a court heard yesterday. State counsel Edwin Okello told the court that the two were paid mercenaries and that they intended to bring down Times Towers and Golfers at the Mombasa Golf Club.

Okello who was making his final submissions wondered why they had brought military explosives into the country and what their intention was.

He told the court that the evidence before court was enough to convict the two suspects. Ahmad and Sayed Mansour were charged last year with owning 15 kilogrammes of explosive materials.

It is alleged that on June 20 at Mombasa Golf Course on Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa, jointly with others not before court, the two were found armed with 15 kilogrammes of RDX explosives in circumstances that indicated they were armed with intent to commit a felony.

Chief magistrate Kiarie Waweru will rule on March 7 whether the two will have a case to answer. The two suspects have been in custody since last year after the court suspended their bail terms.
