Tanzania: Ommy Dimpoz, TMK to Colour Kilimanjaro Marathon

TOP local musicians Ommy Dimpoz and TMK Wanaume Family will perform at the 2013 Kilimanjaro marathon scheduled to take place on Sunday in Moshi, event organisers confirmed.

An official with Executive Solutions, who are local coordinators of the event, Ibrahim Kyaruzy confirmed that the Dimpoz and TMK are lined up for the event. Since its launch in 2003, this annual event has remained one of the popular local athletics event on the calendar of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

The marathon comprises four events including the 42km race, the GAPCO half marathon for people with disabilities, the half marathon at 21.1km, and the Vodacom 5Km Fun Run. On Thursday, the national soccer team Taifa Stars Coach Kim Poulsen also confirmed that he will participate in this year's event by running the Wild Frontiers 21 kilometres half marathon.

This will go into history as the first time that any coach of the National Team is participating in the Kilimanjaro Marathon that was established more than 10 years ago and is sponsored by Kilimanjaro Premium Lager. The coach will have an opportunity to run along Tanzania's marathon superstars and thousands of runners from over 40 countries.

The Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Brand Manager, George Kavishe lauded the coach for his move saying the Marathon is a prestigious event and Poulsen will play a key role in promoting it. "The Coach is so dedicated and this can be seen from the kind of result he has been getting in the National Team," he said.

Executive Solutions are local coordinators while Cosponsors of the event include sponsors Vodacom Tanzania (5km Fun Run), GAPCO Half Marathon for people with disabilities, Tanga Cement, CFAO Motors, KK Security, Keys Hotel, TPC Sugar, TanzaniteOne, New Arusha Hotel, Kilimanjaro Water , FastJet, Clouds FM and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
