Egypt: Five Killed, More Than 600 Injured in Port Said Clashes

Port Said, Egypt — Clashes broke out Sunday, where at least five people have been killed and 600 injured, as police fired intense rounds of teargas throughout the day at demonstrators who opposed an Interior Ministry decision to transfer 39 prisoners from Port Said to Wadi Natroun prison in Beheira governorate.

Among the five, two were policemen that died from gunshots to the head and neck, an Interior Ministry official said.

According to latest figures from Egypt's Health Ministry, at least 600 people suffered injuries during the Sunday unrest; 16 had been shot with live bullets and 27 from birdshot, according to Ahmed Sultan, Head of emergency services.
