Despite finishing runners-up at the ICC Africa Division One T20 tournament last weekend, Ugandan cricket team has been recognised by the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) for their outstanding achievement last month.
Uganda won seven games on the trot before the final defeat to Kenya, which took place March. But by then; Uganda had already qualified for the Division I World Cricket League that will be held in United Arab Emirates in October.
Uspa voted them the best for February at the association's monthly meeting held at Centre Court Sport Club in Lugogo on Monday. They polled 400 votes to beat East Africa Inter-University Games winners Ndejje University, who got 360 while the duo of Prossy Alobo and Hasifa Nakalema, winners of the first-ever Club Pilsner Beach Volleyball circuit, finished third with 275 votes.
The cricket team will be handed the award on Thursday March 14 at Lugogo. Meanwhile, Uspa members will undergo a brief Woodball workshop on the same day to make sports journalist aware of how the game is played.
