Nairobi — Returning Officers have begun arriving at the IEBC national tallying centre at the Bomas of Kenya to deliver results, which will be officially announced beginning Wednesday. The Returning Officers began arriving at dawn on Wednesday to present official results for presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial, MPs, women and county assembly representatives.

The results will later be announced by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission representatives in charge of various regions in the country. IEBC Chairman Issack Hassan on Tuesday directed all Returning Officers to present themselves at the national tallying centre.

The IEBC immediately put in place urgent measures to ensure all returning officers arrived at the national tallying centre as quickly as possible. "The commission facilitated my transport and also offered me security," a Returning Officer from Kirinyaga County told Capital FM News.

By 8am, more than 50 returning officers had arrived from their respective constituencies where their results were verified by senior IEBC officials, political party officials and agents, mainly representing the two leading contenders Uhuru Kenyatta and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

"They are already prepared... they are waiting for us by region. So when I came I was guided to where I was supposed to go. I did not get any problem it was very smooth and orderly," another Returning Officer interviewed said.

CORD's team at the Bomas of Kenya comprised National Election Board Chairman Franklin Bett, Cabinet ministers James Orengo and Anyang' Nyong'o. The Jubilee team included Cabinet Minister Charity Ngilu, TNA official Johnson Sakaja and strategist Moses Kuria among others.

The delay in the release of the election results has caused anxiety among Kenyans who are eager to know who will be their fourth president. The commission has witnessed severe delays in the electronic transmission of results with sources attributing them to system malfunctions.
