Nigeria: Pension Scam Exposed Nigeria's Inept System

opinion

It is only in Nigeria that we see big time miracles working, the latest one is the disappearance of AbdurRasheed Ahmed, another focal point of the pension scam. When reading about his disappearance, I remembered my NYSC year in Zaria, Kaduna State in 1989 when two trailer loads of fertiliser brought to town for farmers disappeared like a needle in the historic city. No one ever knew the truth about what happened to the trailers, the only obvious knowledge was that the two trailers entered Zaria and they never left the town!

So far the only obvious fact is that there is a scam in the police pension involving a mouth-watering amount of money that should automatically send the arms of government working on how to track the alleged amount and possibly return it to government coffers. This is not a new scam, it is old enough for all powers in the land to have laid effective mechanisms to ensure no one involved ever go scot free. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
