Windhoek — The annual Pointbreak Open Water Swim will take center stage this Sunday at the Lake Oanob Resort near Rehoboth, where the crème de la crème of local swimmers will be grilling each other in the marathon 2.1km event and the 700m dash.

Event organisers, Otb Sport, said in a statement that already more than 120 entries were received in various age categories.

The 700m swim will kick off at 9h30, while the 2.1km starts at 10h00. Favourites for the 2.1km swim are 17-year-old Christiaan Lamprecht and 16-year-old Jean-Paul Burger, who can both expect strong competition from legendary swimmers Alexander Skinner and Paddy Murphy.

Namibian Paralympic swimmer, Gideon Nasilowski, will also compete although there is no separate category. "I want to swim the Pointbreak Open Water swim so that I can make history for Paralympics Namibia by becoming the first disabled open water swimmer. I would like to use this event to raise awareness about Paralympics Namibia. I am very much looking forward to the challenge."
