Egypt: Gov't Amends Five-Year Plan for Electricity to Face Heavy Power Consumption

The Cabinet convened on Wednesday 6/3/2013 under Prime Minister Hisham Qandil to discuss the security situation in a number of Egyptian cities.

The Cabinet is particularly concerned about protests and the violence in Port Said and Mansoura and efforts to ease the tension.

The outcome of Qandil's visit to Iraq figured high in the meeting.

On the other hand, the Cabinet agreed on amending the 7th five-year plan (2012-2017) to add development projects and update the current electricity generating plants. Besides, the plan will include establishing Assiut hydroelectric plant at a capacity of 30 mw to reach a total of 12430 mw, including 6930 mw that will be implemented through the electricity sector and 5500 mw will be implemented through the private sector at total investments of LE 78 billion.
