Khartoum — In light of the 10-year mark of war in Darfur a rebel leader is questioning the international community's inaction over crimes committed in the past decade in the region considering they have "put an end to three genocides in the past".

According to Minni Minawi, head deputy of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), the genocides halted by international actors took place in Germany by the Nazis, in the former Yugoslavia and in Rwanda. However, he continued, the international community only "continues watching these mass crimes being committed in Darfur".

Minawi, who is also head of the rebel group Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-MM), noted the International Criminal Court (ICC) has "proved" the regime of President Omar Al Bashir has committed genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur and against the Sudanese people in general.

He called upon individuals to stage protests in front of the UN headquarters, human rights organizations and embassies "to remind them of the atrocities" committed by the regime of Sudan.

Concerning the now delayed visit of Al Bashir to North Darfur, Minawi described it "an insult and terrible provocation" against the families of victims of the displaced and refugees.
