Egypt: HEC Stops Balloting Timetable for House of Representative Elections

At a meeting it held on Thursday 7/3/2013, the Higher Elections Commission (HEC), has decided to suspend the parliamentary elections and canceled the dates of the vote after a court ordered a stop to the elections.

The commission said in a statement it issued late Thursday that the timetable set earlier for the parliamentary vote is no longer valid after the Cairo Administrative Court issued a ruling cancelling a decree by President Mohamed Morsi calling for the parliamentary elections to start on April 22.

The Administrative Court has referred the presidential decree to the Supreme Constitutional Court for review.
