Egypt Relation With Ethiopia Based On Confidence, Understanding, Cooperation - Ambassador

Ethiopia and Egypt have opened a new chapter in their relations after the January 25 revolution, said Egyptian Ambassador to Ethiopia Mohamed Edris.

Ethiopian-Egyptian ties are based on mutual trust and understanding for the sake of the two nations, Edris said in a press statement.

The Egyptian diplomat said he is confident the two countries will act to promote their cooperation in the coming phase.

Shifting to Egypt's refusal to sign the framework cooperation agreement among the Nile Basin countries, Edris said Sudan and Congo did not sign the deal as well.

This, however, does not mean ignoring development in Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia, because the three countries have been cooperating for more than 15 years since the launch of the Nile Basin Initiative, he added.

The three states should remain committed to promoting joint cooperation even if they do not share common views, Edris said.
