Kenya's tensely contested March 4 general elections is in its final stages with citizens and the rest of the world patiently waiting for the final declaration of results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) who are the only institution mandated to declare the winner of the March 4 presidential Elections.

The IEBC announced during a press conference yesterday and through its social media platforms that results will be declared at 11am Kenyan time. However this is yet to happen and the IEBC in a few minutes ago issued another statement on its official twitter handle "@IEBCpage: sorry for delay as Chairman and Commissioners running late on some meeting. Won't be long now for the Bomas press briefing. Thxs"

As at 2:30am, many media houses had called the elections for Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee alliance with a total vote of 6,173,433 (50.03%) beating the Prime Minister Raila Odinga who had 5,340,546 (43.28%) out of 12,338,667 from the total 291constituencies.

For an outright victory in the first round, a candidate must garner at least 50 percent plus one of all votes cast, in addition to getting at least 25 percent of the votes in 24 counties out of 47.

If there is no outright winner in the first round, the top two candidates will proceed into a run-off, where the candidate who obtains more votes becomes president.
