Egypt: Measures to Curb Cement Price Hikes

The Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade announced on 9/3/13 taking measures to curb cement price hikes following meetings held by Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade Hatem Saleh with cement companies with the aim of controlling the prices and probing the reasons of the unjustified cement price increase.

The Minister said the ministry guarantees the operation of cement plants with full capacity so as to meet the market needs, noting that Egypt has great potentials in the field of cement industry with investments hitting EGP 60 billion and production capacity of 60 million tons annually.

However, the volume of local production in 2012 hit some 54 million tons due to the problems which faced this industry, represented in lack of fuel, along with some security problems, he added.
