During the 1948 US presidential elections, the US media uniformly reported that then presidential candidate Harry S Truman could not win and one even went ahead and published in large banner headline, "Dewey defeats Truman."
That turned out to be the worst media prediction of US elections and Truman proudly displayed the erroneous paper carrying the false headline that he had lost when he had, in fact, won much to the chagrin of his opponents.
