Female politicians in Kenya faced stiff competition from their male counterparts with only 16 elected to parliament out of 290 seats.

Labour Party of Kenya boss Julia Ojiambo has defended her party against claims of non-payment of cash to party agents.

Ojiambo, who came second in the women's representative bid in Busia, said contrary to reports her party paid all the agents on time.

Speaking anonymously to the press during the voter tallying exercise, some agents claimed that Labour Party candidates, who lost in the election, disappear without paying them their dues.
