THE government is yet to recover firearms and arrest key leaders of militia gang behind the killing of 14 people among them nine police officers in Coast province.
According to police,more than 100 militia ambushed four police officers among them late Changamwe OCPD Otieno Awour hacked them to death and robbed them two G3 rifles and a pistol.
The four slain officers were brutally murdered in a botched operation after they responded distress call of planned attack at polling station in Miritin.
Three other firearms were robbed in yet another raid at Chumani and Chonyi AP camp where Administration Police sergeant Hillary Mwabolo had his head chopped off by the militia while three other officers were murdered.
Coast PPO Aggrey Adoli however, said the government is determined to recover the guns and arrest the militia involved in the attack which led to the killing of officers.
In Kisauni district a senior officer was hacked to death and a loaded Ak 47 rifle stolen by the same gang that had planned an attack at the polling station.
Police suspect some of the colleagues in the force could be sympathizers of MRC, who mislead or tipped off the members of the militia of the planned raid thus exposing the officers.
A senior police officer told the star the officers were caught flat footed in all attacks that had targeted security agencies.
The four bodies were later transferred from the hospital to Moi international airport and airlifted by a police chopper for burial.
Top police officers among the inspector the inspector general of police David Kimaiyo are expected to attend the burial of the officers who were killed in the line of duty just hours to the general election.
