President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has by Proclamation declared Wednesday, March 13, 2013 as "Decoration Day" to be observed throughout the Republic as a National Holiday. The observance, according to a Foreign Ministry release, is in recognition of the Nation's past heroes and heroines who have lived and died in the interest of their country.
President Sirleaf has also ordered that the National Ensign be flown at half-staff from all public buildings, military camps and private residences from 12:01 to 5:30 post meridian. The President has therefore ordered that all public buildings and business houses be closed during the observance of the day.
