At a glittering event on Saturday, March 9, the City of Cape Town District 4, acknowledged various sports persons and administrators. Welcoming the numerous nominees, District 4 chairperson Alex Kannemeyer, said, "paying tribute to these sport trojans is a well-deserved accolade. Many sacrifice family time and monetary rewards to ensure those less privileged enjoy the pleasure of sport and recreation."
City of Cape Town Director of Sport Mr Gert Bam added these acknowledgments are for people who achieved extraordinary things. "A better city translates into a better people who ultimately bring about a safer city, a caring city, an inclusive city, a well-run city ensuring a city of opportunity, "he said.
Main winners were Faeeza Adams (Administrator of the Year), Clive Carollissen (Coach of the Year), Remondo Bergman (Junior Sportswoman of the Year), Andile Jikane (Junior Sportsman of the Year), Abeedah McKenzie (Sportswoman of the Year) and Obey Adams (Sportsman of the Year).
Lifetime achievements awarded to the following persons, Faldie Ruiters, Johannes Booysen, Bennett Bailey, Shahied Adams, Lindsay Davids and Riedwaan Anthony. A special media award was presented to Cape Flats News for their contribution for promotion of local sport.
