Sierra Leone: 29 Charged for Gavi Funds

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Friday indicted the country's Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and his deputy alongside 27 others for alleged corruption offences relating to the GAVI funds and the 2011 Auditor General's report. Dr. Kisito Daoh, his deputy Dr. Alhassan L. Sesay and four others were charged with 22 counts of misappropriation of donor funds totalling one hundred and eighteen million, one hundred and fifty-seven thousand, five hundred and thirty four Leones (Le118, 157, 534), contrary to Section 37(1) of the ACC Act No. 12 of 2008.

According to the Commissioner of the ACC, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, 22 of the 29 accused persons have already been arrested and put on bail, awaiting arraignment in the High Court of Sierra Leone. He informed newsmen that investigations into the findings of the Audit Report will continue and the public will be informed of additional indictments in due course.
