The election of Uhuru Kenyatta as President of Kenya has raised controversy because the president-elect is facing charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The ICC has played its part in spreading fear amongst African leaders and warlords who were otherwise used to impunity. Even the peaceful elections in Kenya can in part be attributed to the threat posed by the ICC and leaders fearing to join the list of those already facing serious charges.
