The Media Monitoring Committee together with the Communication Commission of Kenya are working to have a law that will require internet service providers to install ISP addresses to all computers to help in monitoring the origin of inappropriate messages.
While applauding the media's efforts in trying to ensure peace during and after the poll process the committee said there was a rise of hate and ethnic messages on social media over the two week period before and during the election.
We regret to report that we were unable to contain in any meaningful way the ugly messages of the hate and negative ethnicity in the social media networks over the two - week period before and after the elections," said Mary Ombara director of public communications at the Media Monitoring Committee.
Ombara cautioned bloggers on hate speech stating that over 75 per cent of blog posts qualified as hate speech and incitement. She warned bloggers propagating hate speech stating that " it is merely a matter of time before we catch up with them."
