Gambia: Allunhareh, Sabi Amongst Teams Through to Last Eight

Allunhareh and Sabi Krumba are among the teams that made their passage to the last eight of the Serahuleh 'Soumpou-dou-Khatti' football tournament. The duo who booked their place on Monday were joined by Baja Kunda and Demba Kunda on Tuesday.

Allunhareh saw the better of Taifa 1-0 courtesy of an-8th minute goal scored by Abubacarr Touray. The match that was played at the Serekunda West Mini Stadium was characterised by a fantastic atmosphere, combined with a spectacular display of sublime skills by both teams and was strongly contested.

Sabi had to come through a thrilling post-match penalty shoot-out before securing their quarterfinal place in the meeting with Sabi United 5-4. Following a barren first half between the two sides, the second interval get off to a thrilling start and Sabi United had the best opportunity to win the game but Buba Tunkara's 74th minute shot failed to find the target.

On Tuesday, Baja Kunda, a team based in Basse made light work of Sandaga (based in Casamance) 2-0 at the Serekunda West Mini-Stadium. Baja Kunda opened the scorings in the 35th minute through Essa Gerew as they went into the break with the slender lead despite Sandaga reacting with some scoring opportunities on goal but all their attempts were fruitless.

After the break, both teams approached the second half with greater determination, with some terrific sequence of passing which produced several opportunities on goal. But it was not until in the 64th minute when Baja Kunda made sure of the win through a sublime Mustapha Janneh finish.

Favourites Dembakunda is also through to the latter stages following a 3-1 thrashing of Jahaly. Dictating the pace of the game, Demba Kunda opened the scorings after only eight minutes courtesy of Saibou Jagana's free-kick. But Jahaly put up some resistance up front and their efforts were duly rewarded with a 36th minute equaliser through Ebrima Tambedou.

After the break, Demba Kunda restored their lead on the hour mark through Yanka Jagana's goal on the break before Papa Jagana made sure of the victory with a third goal in the 72nd minute.
