South Africa: Government Saddened By Loss of Lives in Western Cape Bus Crash

Government conveys its deepest condolences to the families and friends of commuters that were killed in the dreadful bus accident on the N1 near De Doorns, Western Cape.

According to media reports, the bus crashed down an embankment in the Hex River Valley, injuring scores of passengers.

Acting GCIS CEO, Phumla Williams, said, "This is an unfortunate incident. Drivers are urged to be vigilant on the road and obey all traffic laws. Vehicle safety inspections are important and should be conducted on a regular basis. Owners of public transport vehicles are particularly are urged to comply with safety regulatory standards."

Government commends the speedy intervention of the emergency staff to the accident scene and wishes all those injured a speedy recovery.
