Kenya: Council Staff Strike Rages

The City Council of Mombasa workers yesterday entered day two of their strike despite assurances from the Local Authority ministry that they will be paid their salary.A ministry official told the council the Sh400 million demanded by the council had been deposited in their account on Thursday.

"But we have checked the account and there is nothing that is reflected," said a council officer who did not want to be named.

The Kenya Local Government Workers Union Mombasa branch chairman Suleiman Mohamed said the workers will push on with their demands until they are met.
