Nigeria: Plagiarism - Unical Sacks ASUU Chair, Five Lecturers

Calabar — Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the University of Calabar, Francis Okpiliye and five other lecturers had been dismissed for plagiarism and dishonesty.The statement signed by the Secretary to the Council and Registrar of the University, Mrs. Julia Omang and made available to reporters confirmed the dismissal.

The statement said ten academics staff of the university were demoted for publishing plagiarized works in fake journals.

Their names were given as Udoayang, Asuquo Akabom, Sunday Effiong , C.O. Udoka all of the Accounting Department with Molinta Enedu of Department of Theater and Media Studies, as well as E. S. Akpan of Banking and Finance.

The academic staff dismissed for outright plagiarism include Azubuke Illoeje, Maurice Bisong of the Department of English and Literary Studies, Oden Ubi, Department of Marketing and, Paulinus Noah of the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, while Damian Agom was dismissed for salary overpayment enriching himself to the tune of N7.2million for 11 months.

Others are AI. Afangideh and K. B. C Ashipu of the Department of English and Literary Studies.

Afangideh and Ashipu who were demoted by one step are to refund all moneys earned from their unmerited promotion and barred from promotion for the next six years.
