Kampala — Next month, Africa Power Initiative Limited (API) will start extracting bio fuel from jatropha. To most people in Uganda, Jatropha is largely grown as a fence on farms and homes. However this same crop can be used to extract biofuels to power engines in the wake of rising fuel prices.
Jatropha, together with candle nut, castor and cotton are some of non-food oil crops grown all over the world and their seeds are used to produce biodiesel fuel. Just like fossil fuels, these plants have many by products including biodiesel, glycerin, fertilizers, briquettes and biogas among others.
