Zimbabwe: Referendum Results to Be Announced Today

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), Chairperson Justice Rita Makarau, has assured journalists and the electorates that results for the constitutional referendum held over the weekend will be announced on the 19 of March 2013 stating that collation and verification of the results was almost complete.

"The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission wishes to inform the nation that it has now reached the final stages of collation of the results for the referendum held on the 16th of March 2013. The final result of the referendum shall be announced at 14:30 hours today," she said.

The Commission has however invited all interested parties to attend the final press conference where results shall be announced. Justice Makarau said they were not facing any challenges in releasing the results and the results will be released within the stipulated timeframe.

Under the new constitution, the president who wins the election,expected to be held in July, will be able to serve a maximum of two terms.
