Kenya: Kolongolo Coach Koops Denies Karuturi Sports Move

19 March 2013

FORMER AFC Leopards Dutch coach Jan Koops has denied reports that he is headed to Premier League side, Karuturi Sports. "It's true Karuturi chairman David Omega approached me to help him handle the team for four months as the current coach Michael Nam will be away in Europe for advanced coaching course. But since I had already signed a one-year contract with Kolongolo, I referred the chairman to Namulanda if he could agree to second me to the club," Koops said at the club's training base at Nambale AC. Before joining Kolongolo, Koops was turned down by four Premier League clubs.

Koops denied reports that he was headed for Karuturi FC. Dismissing media reports, Kolongolo club patron Namulanda, said Koops was their coach and had already started his coaching duties. "If anybody is interested in Koops, he should talk to us directly and not through the media. That is the club's position on the matter," he said. Koops contacted clubs's trials, where 30 players out of 60 were picked. The trials attracted players from as far as Mombasa. "It is a pity that young players who are supposed to play for Premier League clubs or the national team happen to be here with their talents remaining untapped.
