Kenya: Three to Faceoff for Kisii Speaker

19 March 2013

THREE lawyers will face each other in the race for the Kisii county assembly speaker's seat. Kerosi Ondieki, Gideon Nyambati and Reuben Masese are now the front runners after Ken Nyaundi, a former commissioner with the Interim Independent Electoral Commission, said he is not intrested.

"Contrary to wide spread speculation, I am not contesting the post. I will support whoever will be elected," Nyaundi said in a statement. Ondieki, the Kisii ODM chairman, has a head start over his opponents as the party won 26 out of the 45 county assembly seats. Nyambati is the Kisii Law Society of Kenya secretary while Masese is the chairman of the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company.
