Tunisia: President Marzouki to Pay Official Visit to Germany On March 21-22

Carthage — German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle reasserted, Tuesday afternoon, after his talk with caretaker President of the Republic Moncef Marzouki, "his country's support to the democratic transition process in Tunisia," a statement of the Presidency of the Republic reads.

The German FM voiced "confidence in Tunisia's aptitude to overcome the difficulties of the economic and social juncture which requires a larger support from the Tunisian people's friends, notably in the field of promoting investments and funding small-and medium-sized projects," the same source underlines.

He also underscored the importance to decide the holding of the elections before the end of the current year, determine a fixed date and define a road map favouring the completion of the transition phase in Tunisia.

The talk provided the occasion to examine means to promote the Tunisian-German relations and evoke the official visit to be paid by President Marzouki, on March 21-22 to Germany, a statement of the Presidency announces.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi.
