LOCAL consumers have been warned to be careful with traders and transporters who tamper with cement bags to make super profits.
The issue was raised by some participants of a daylong workshop for Brick Making and Environment organised by Tanzania Portland Cement Company (TPCC) for brick makers from Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo held at Wazo Hill.
TPCC Environmental Manager, Richard Magoda, said usually cement bags were filled to 50kgs net at the factory before being transported to consumers. He said some employees of transporters tamper with the bags targeting to make more profit. "We need cooperation with you our customers.
Once you doubt, call us and we will investigate. There are contracts and unfaithful transporters who have been kicked out," said Mr Magoda. Mr Magoda told the participants that though they need profit, they were also responsible for conservation of their sites for their own benefit as well the next generation.
He said deforestation, industrial operations and new technologies all have negative impact to the environment for they increase carbon dioxide that affect the ozone layer.
