Uganda: MTN Introduces Fastest Internet Speeds

As competition for the data services market heats up, MTN Uganda has upgraded its internet speeds to 42Mbps, double the previous 21.6Mbps.

In a press statement, MTN said it was the first company in Uganda and one of the very first in Africa to achieve this.

"our 42Mbps is the fastest speed achievable on a 3G+ network, giving MTN customers twice the speed and power to browse the internet," said the statement from Chief Marketing Officer Ernst Fonternel. "This is double the speed that any other mobile operator in Uganda provides and it is the reason we will be considered the data provider of choice in 2013 and beyond."

A month earlier, MTN had launched a fibre network at Katuna on the border with Rwanda. The company also promised to roll out a Long-Term Evolution (also known as 4G) network to ease and speed up mobile data connections.
