Nigeria/Kenya: Afcon Success, Warning to Odemwingie ? Nwosu

22 March 2013

As Nigeria confront the Harambee Stars of Kenya today in a World Cup qualifier, former Super Eagles captain, Henry Nwosu has revealed that winning the last AFCON trophy without players like Osaze Odemwingie has fired a warning to the foreign based players who treat invitations with levity. He stressed that the Nations Cup and its outcome in South Africa means that home based players have matured and are now equal to the task noting that inviting twenty-four local players for the qualifier was justifiable which at the end showed that the coach would have large pool to select from.

Eagles coach Stephen Keshi however picked nine local players for today's clash. "From what happened in South Africa, the home based players can do it and of course we should map out more of them because I am sure those home based players that went to South Africa will not want to remain in a local league and as they are going out of the shore of Nigeria to play professional football, more should be given opportunity to prove their worth in the team.
