Namibia: 'Beast Master' Arrested for Assault

Windhoek — Professional boxer Vekapita Meroro, also known by the moniker 'Beast Master' was arrested on Sunday night for alleged assault by threatening and kidnapping, Inspector Kauna Shikwambi confirmed yesterday.

It is alleged the boxer threatened to assault his girlfriend and also reportedly kidnapped a minor child. It is not known whether it is his child.

Meroro is the current World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Cruiserweight champion after beating Ugandan Hamza Wandera with a third round technical knockout. Meroro is not the first boxer to land in trouble for alleged domestic abuse and allegedly beating up a person outside the ring.

Shikwambi said Meroro is expected to make a first court appearance today in the Katutura Magistrate's Court and is currently remanded at the Katutura police cells.
