Tanzania: EU Grants Sh107 Billion to Tanzania for Water Project

Sumbawanga — THE State through financial assistance amounting to 107bn/- from European Union (EU) will facilitate a long water supply project in seven towns. The towns are, Sumbawanga in Rukwa Region, Kigoma, Lindi, Mtwara, Babati, Bukoba na Musoma. The Rukwa Regional Commissioner, Ms Stella Manyanya announced the programme when briefing the Rukwa Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) meeting held at RDC hall here in the municipality.

The RCC gathering was briefed that the programme is expected to start in 2013/14 fiscal year and scheduled for completion in two years. It was also announced that a consultant has already been chosen and a process of getting a contractor has been accomplished. However, the signing of the contract has not yet been finalized. According to RC, under the aforementioned program, 13 new wells will be drilled and fitted with pumps. Purification water plant at Majengo Juu area will be rehabilitated and six water tanks with a capacity of storing 7,000,000 litres of water will be built.
