Nigeria: Presidential Pardon Invitation to Dirty Politics - TUC

Lagos — The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) says the recent presidential pardon granted former governor of Balyesa State Diepriye Alamieyeseigha and others is an invitation to politicians in the country to engage in dirty politics.

The pressure group said such development would make the political terrain more violent and dangerous than it already is. A statement signed by union's President and General Secretary Comrade Peter Esele and Mohammed Musa also said the pardon was granted to divert attention from its actual target, Alamieyeseigha.

"This singular decision by the National Council of State has taken the nation several steps backward and made Nigeria a laughing stock just a few years after the comity of nations and international investors had begun to take us seriously", it said.
