Nigeria, UK Defence Chiefs Meet Over Boko Haram

Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ola Sa'ad Ibrahim and his United Kingdom counterpart General Sir David Richards have held a meeting in London over Boko Haram.

Gen. Richards visited Nigeria's Defence Headquarters in January. Director of Defence Information Brigadier General Chris Olukolade said meeting of the two chiefs recently "has opened doors of new opportunities particularly in addressing counter-terrorism challenges and the Malian crisis."

He said defence chiefs discussed areas of mutual cooperation, "especially with respect to operationalising the memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently signed by Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Their deliberations on the on-going operation in Mali and the Boko Haram/JAMB insurgency also looked at the details of the impending specialized training assistance to Nigeria by the UK."

Ibrahim also met with the UK Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence, Mr. Nick Gurr and discussed key areas of interest with respect to curbing the insurgency threat in the country as well as the Malian crisis.
